Dancing for Birth

About a year ago, I teamed up with Stephanie Larson, founder of Dancing for Birth,  to bring Dancing For Birth™ to Labor & Delivery nurses at our hospital. We hosted the Dancing For Birth™ instructor training at our location. We now have two Registered Nurses who are Certified Instructors!
We were so excited to have two staff members attending the Dancing for Birth Instructor Training program in Cape Coral Florida. Our hospital is on a journey toward wellness. This wellness journey starts with the pregnant woman bringing a new life into the world. The Family Birth Place is a birthing unit that supports a woman’s wishes and encourages our mothers to be upright and mobile during labor. We use birth balls, hydrotherapy for labor, and even have a telemetry system that allows mothers to be upright and walking (or dancing!) throughout their labors. We are currently on a journey to become a Baby-Friendly designated hospital. All of our nursing staff are certified as breastfeeding counselors.
We feel that the Dancing for Birth class encourages more women to take advantage of natural movement and dance during their pregnancy and also during labor to encourage an easier labor and birth. We offer this course at our Wellness Center having a class in the day time and another class in the evening so we can support all mother’s needs.
Our hospital is focused on provided family-centric care including the innovative approach to cesarean birth called “Gentle Cesarean” allowing immediate skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding which is an important part of seeding a child’s microbiome.    Mothers  “Room In” with their newborns, providing the best care possible for the newborn to be seeded properly with it’s mother’s good bacteria to build the child’s immune system and lower risks of non-communicable diseases.  Breastfeeding counselors and lactation consultants are available to help new parents get off to the best possible start with their newborns.

Dancing For Birth Education in hospitals is an important, positive step for women. Giving birth professionals the resources to provide support to laboring women with the understanding of activating instincts is important to creating the sacred space women need to birth naturally. The techniques used are designed to shorten labor, increase comfort, reduce the need for intervention, resolve fetal malposition, increase the mother’s satisfaction of her birth, and support breastfeeding and bonding.
If you are an expectant or new mother and are interested in attending our next Dancing for Birth series, call us!   239-424-2211,  our next series starts June 16th!
